Background

We were asked by the Department for Education (DfE) to help pioneer the use of prototyping to act as test-bed pilots for potential future services.

What we did, and how

We worked with the Digital Communications team at the DfE, leading a team of developers, designers, consultants and civil servants to create:

  • A government data warehouse (the first of its kind) that allows third party developers to use DfE data to create new products and services
  • An online prototype service that helps parents choose a school for their child, by combining Ofsted data on school ratings, DfE data on attainment and user generated content such as blog posts relating to the school into a user-friendly format
  • Monitoring dashboards that provide ministers with a personalized online point of access to traditional and social media content relevant to their policy areas

Results

  • Over 200,000 social media impressions over a variety of campaigns
  • Over 5,000 video views for new campaign launches
  • Over 4,000 teachers supported - at very low cost
  • Ongoing monitoring over 4,500 new-sources
