Background

In 2008, Satellite Information Services Limited (SIS), a long-established media business, purchased the BBC’s outside broadcast facilities, now SIS OB. They required a modernisation plan to address an increasingly competitive market and we were asked to identify a new target operating model and organisational structure, building on SIS OB quality.

What we did, and how

Working with the SIS management team we developed a vision and a set of strategic objectives covering business change, financial implications, benefits and risks.

This enabled us to prepare a rating model facilitating a sophisticated comparison of the benefits and risks of each option, focusing on their ability to deliver the agreed vision and objectives. The best option was chosen for implementation.

We then developed and delivered a new target operating model, significant operational process changes, new job descriptions and an operational set of KPIs, transforming SIS OB into a modern commercially driven business whilst ensuring its quality values were maintained.

Results

  • Business intelligence via development of a management dashboard and toolsets and online project feedback within the OB event/broadcast delivery function
  • Improved account management via process changes and application usage
  • New role definitions and end to end process for OB delivery (based on a redesigned target operating model)
  • Cost reduction in hire management within the logistics function
The team provided SIS OB with a blueprint to modernise its business, deliver better business performance and transform elements of its operation such as planning and resourcing. They took a pragmatic approach and balanced financial benefits against business risks ensuring operations were not jeopardised or compromised.
